"Piglet siblings describe the many things their mother loves to do, which always include spending time with one of them. For example, "Mama loves / dancing in slippers. / Teapots of tea. / Reading the paper / and mornings / with me." Mrs. Pig also enjoys bike riding with her children, sitting on the porch just listening to them, working in the garden, and reading with them. She is the perfect parent with plenty of time and all the patience in the world. Nevertheless, this sweet story in rhyme works without becoming sappy. In the opening illustration, it's morning, and Mama is seeing the youngsters off to school. In the closing picture, it is nighttime, and one child is playing the piano while another snuggles on her lap. Brown's soft, pastel watercolors enhance the text without overpowering it. The family lives in a country home surrounded by flowers, picket fences, and open fields. A quiet and cozy selection.
